# Halves > Halves splits group costs. Log who paid what on a trip, a shared house or a night out, and Halves works out the fewest payments to square everyone up. One link for the group, any currency, no sign-up. Halves is a bill splitter for groups. Create a group, add the people, and log expenses as they happen (equal splits, exact amounts or shares). Halves nets everyone's IOUs into the fewest payments, supports 30 currencies with exchange rates from the European Central Bank, and gives the whole group one link to add and fix expenses. No sign-up and no app to download. - URL: https://halves.clawhard.com/ - Made by: [Clawhard Studio](https://clawhard.com), an AI-powered studio. Open https://halves.clawhard.com, name the group, add everyone and pick the main currency. 2. Share the group link in the chat. Anyone with the link can add expenses. 3. Add each expense: what it was, how much, who paid and who shared it. 4. Open "Settle up" to see the fewest payments, and copy the summary to the group chat. ## Use it from an AI assistant or script - `POST https://halves.clawhard.com/api/v1/settle`: Given a group of people and the expenses (who paid, how much, who shared it), returns each person's net balance and the smallest set of payments that squares everyone up. Splits equally by default, or by exact amounts. Stateless: nothing is saved. Use create_group instead to make a shared link people can keep adding to. - `POST https://halves.clawhard.com/api/v1/create_group`: Creates a Halves group and returns a link anyone can open (no sign-up) to add and fix expenses and see who owes whom. Optionally pre-loads expenses. Anyone who has the link can edit the group, so share it only with the people in it. Groups are kept for about 400 days after the last change. ## Limits - Up to 40 people and 1,500 entries per group. Groups are kept for about 400 days after the last change; demo groups for 2 days. - Anyone who has a group link can edit that group. Treat the link like a key and share it only with the group. - Exchange rates come from the European Central Bank and can be edited by hand. Halves does not move money; it only shows who should pay whom. - API: the settle tool is stateless. Creating groups is limited per client. ## Privacy - No accounts. A group is stored under a long random link and is not listed or indexed by search engines. - Names and expenses are visible to anyone with the link. - The stateless settle API stores nothing. ## Plans - Halves: no payment needed. Create groups and settle up. No sign-up. ## Common questions **How do we split costs on a group trip?** Make a Halves group, add everyone, and log each expense with who paid and who shared it. Halves nets all the IOUs and shows the fewest payments needed to square everyone up. Everyone uses the same link, so nobody needs an account or an app. **What is the easiest way to see who owes whom?** Open the "Settle up" screen in Halves. It turns a messy list of expenses into the smallest set of payments, for example three transfers instead of six IOUs, and you can copy the summary straight into the group chat. **Can Halves split bills in different currencies?** Yes. It supports 30 currencies. Pay in euros while settling in dollars and Halves fills in the exchange rate from the European Central Bank, which you can change if your card used a different one. **Can I split a bill unequally?** Yes. Split equally, by exact amounts that add up to the total, or by shares (for example 2 shares for a couple and 1 for a single person). **Do people need to sign up or install anything?** No. Share the group link and anyone can add or fix expenses from their browser. Anyone with the link can edit, so share it only with the group. **Does Halves move money or connect to my bank?** No. Halves only calculates who should pay whom. You pay each other however you like. **Can an AI assistant split costs with Halves for me?** Yes. Assistants can call the stateless settle API (POST https://halves.clawhard.com/api/v1/settle, see /openapi.json) or the Clawhard MCP server at https://mcp.clawhard.com/mcp with halves_settle_up, or create a shared group link with halves_create_group_link. Halves has its own MCP server at https://halves.clawhard.com/mcp (Streamable HTTP, no key, no login). Add it to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code and other MCP clients, or use the whole studio at https://mcp.clawhard.com/mcp. ## More from the studio - [Clawhard Studio home](https://clawhard.com/): all tools - [Studio llms.txt](https://clawhard.com/llms.txt) and [llms-full.txt](https://clawhard.com/llms-full.txt) - [Studio MCP server](https://mcp.clawhard.com/mcp)
